How to Embed Google Reviews on Website: 3 Dead-Simple Methods That Actually Work

Look, everyone’s making this way harder than it needs to be…

You’ve probably spent hours reading confusing tutorials with 47 steps, watched YouTube videos that assume you’re a coding wizard, or maybe you hired someone for $500 to do what you could’ve done yourself in 10 minutes.

Here’s the truth nobody wants to tell you about how to embed Google reviews on your website…

It’s embarrassingly simple.

And if you’re still struggling to figure this out, it’s not because you’re bad with tech. It’s because most guides overcomplicate the hell out of it.

So this last week I’ve been helping a few clients get their Google reviews embedded on their websites…

And I noticed something…

Almost ALL of them were trying the same complicated approaches. They were diving straight into custom coding, hunting for expensive plugins, or worse – paying developers ridiculous amounts for something that takes literally 5 minutes.

But here’s what the smart ones figured out…

The ones who actually got results didn’t reinvent the wheel. They used the simple methods that actually work, got their reviews live in under 10 minutes, and started converting more visitors immediately.

Here’s exactly what we’re going to cover:

  • Why display Google reviews on your website (and the conversion boost you’re missing)
  • 3 dead-simple methods that work for ANY website
  • The common mistakes that make you look amateur
  • Pro tips to make your reviews actually convert visitors

Fair warning: I’m not going to sugarcoat this or give you 47 steps to confuse you. This is the straightforward, no-BS approach that gets results.

Whether you’re running a WordPress website, Shopify store, or even a basic HTML website – by the end of this guide, you’ll have Google reviews displaying on your site and converting visitors into customers.

Ready? Let’s dive in…

Why Display Google Reviews on Your Website (And Why Most People Screw This Up)

Here’s what kills me…

Most business owners know they SHOULD have reviews on their website. But they either never get around to it, or they do it completely wrong.

Let me tell you a quick story…

Last month, I was helping a local restaurant owner who was struggling to get customers through the door. Great food, decent prices, but barely any foot traffic.

We looked at his website and… nothing. No reviews, no social proof, just a basic menu and contact info.

But here’s the kicker – this guy had 47 five-star Google reviews!

So we embedded them on his homepage in about 8 minutes.

Within two weeks, his weekend bookings increased by 30%.

That’s the power of social proof when you actually USE it.

The Trust Factor (And Why 93% of People Won’t Buy Without It)

Here’s some data that’ll make you pay attention…

The majority of consumers read online reviews before making a purchase.

Let that sink in.

Almost everyone checks reviews before spending money. And if they can’t find reviews on YOUR website, where do you think they go?

Straight to your competitors who ARE smart enough to display their reviews.

But here’s where it gets interesting…

People don’t just want to see that you HAVE reviews. They want to see them on YOUR website because it shows confidence. It shows you’re not hiding anything.

When you display Google reviews prominently, you’re basically saying: “Look, real people love what we do, and we’re proud enough to show you right here.”

The SEO Benefits Nobody Talks About

Okay, here’s something most “SEO experts” won’t tell you…

Google LOVES when you embed Google reviews on your website.

Why? Because you’re creating fresh, user-generated content that’s constantly updating. Every new review adds more relevant keywords and local signals to your site.

Plus, Google can see that people are actively engaging with your business – and they reward that with better search rankings.

I’ve seen local businesses jump from page 3 to page 1 just by properly embedding their Google reviews and improve their local SEO click-through rates.

The Conversion Rate Boost (Real Numbers)

Here’s where it gets really interesting…

According to multiple studies, websites with customer reviews see conversion rate increases of 15-35%.

But here’s the thing – most people implement reviews wrong and barely see any improvement.

The most common mistakes I see:

  • Hiding reviews on a separate “testimonials” page nobody visits
  • Only showing 2-3 reviews when you have dozens
  • Using tiny text that nobody can read
  • Placing reviews at the bottom where they’re invisible

When you embed Google reviews the RIGHT way (which I’ll show you), you get visitors saying stuff like:

“Wow, look at all these happy customers…” “This business must be legit…” “If 47 people gave them 5 stars, it’s probably worth trying…”

That’s the internal conversation that leads to conversions.

Now maybe you’re wondering, “but Brandon, how do I actually DO this without screwing it up?”

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.

The next section breaks down the 3 simple methods that actually work – starting with the easiest option that takes about 5 minutes…

Method 1: Free Google Reviews Widget Using WordPress Plugins

Okay, let’s start with the easiest option…

If you’re running a WordPress website (and statistically, you probably are), this is your golden ticket. Just embed google reviews widget code onto your site.

Here’s the thing most WordPress tutorials won’t tell you:

You don’t need some fancy $200/month plugin. The free ones work perfectly fine for most businesses.

Best Free Plugins That Actually Work

I’ve tested dozens of these, and here are the ones that don’t suck:

1. Google Places Reviews Pro (by Rich Plugins)

This is my go-to recommendation. It’s free, clean, and doesn’t try to upsell you every 5 seconds.

2. Integrate Google Reviews Widget

Simple, lightweight, gets the job done.

3. WP Google Reviews

Solid option with good customization.

Pro tip: Avoid any plugin that has “premium” in the name for the free version. They’re usually just trying to get you to upgrade.

Step-by-Step WordPress Website Setup

Alright, here’s exactly how to do this…

Step 1: Install the Plugin

  • Go to your WordPress dashboard
  • Click “Plugins” → “Add New”
  • Search for “Google Places Reviews Pro” (or whichever one you chose)
  • Click “Install Now” then “Activate”

Step 2: Find Your Google Place ID (The Right Way)

This is where most people get confused, so pay attention…

The easiest method:

  • Go to Google Maps
  • Search for your business
  • Click on your business listing
  • Look at the URL – you’ll see something like “place/[LONG STRING OF CHARACTERS]”
  • Copy that long string – that’s your Place ID

Alternative method if that doesn’t work:

  • Google search “Google Place ID finder”
  • Use the first result (it’s a Google tool)
  • Enter your business name and location
  • Copy the Place ID it gives you

Step 3: Integrate Google Reviews Widget

  • In your WordPress dashboard, look for the new plugin in your menu (usually called “Google Reviews” or similar)
  • Paste your Place ID in the setup field
  • Choose your language (probably English)
  • Click “Connect” or “Save”

Step 4: Choose Your Display Style

Here’s where you can get creative…

Grid layout: Perfect for your homepage – shows multiple reviews in a clean grid Slider: Good for sidebars or footer areas List: Works well on testimonial pages Badge: Great for your header or menu area

My recommendation? Start with a grid layout on your homepage. You can always add more later.

Step 5: Copy and Paste the Shortcode

The plugin will generate a shortcode that looks something like: [google-reviews]

Now here’s the important part – WHERE you place this matters…

Best places to embed reviews:

  • Homepage (above the fold if possible)
  • Service pages (right after your main pitch)
  • Contact page (builds trust before they call)
  • Checkout page (reduces cart abandonment)

Finding Your Google Place ID (The Right Way)

Look, I’ve seen people spend hours trying to figure this out…

Here’s the fool-proof method:

Method 1: The URL Trick

  1. Go to Google Maps
  2. Search for your business
  3. Click on your listing
  4. Look at the URL in your browser
  5. Find the part that says “place/” followed by a long string
  6. Copy everything after “place/” – that’s your Place ID

Method 2: The Inspector Method (from the video transcript)

  1. Google search your business name
  2. Scroll down and right-click “Write a review”
  3. Click “Inspect” (or “Inspect Element”)
  4. Press Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac)
  5. Search for “data/PID”
  6. Copy the long string next to it

Method 3: Google’s Official Tool

  1. Google search “Google Place ID finder”
  2. Use Google’s official tool (first result)
  3. Enter your business details
  4. Copy the Place ID it generates

Pro tip: If your business isn’t showing up, make sure you have a Google Business Profile set up first. You can’t embed reviews if Google doesn’t know your business exists.

See how simple this is?

Most people overcomplicate this process, but it literally takes 5-10 minutes once you know what you’re doing.

The plugin does all the heavy lifting – fetching reviews, formatting them nicely, keeping them updated automatically.

But what if you’re not on WordPress?

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered in the next section…

Method 2: Third-Party Tools for Any Website Builder

Okay, so what if you’re NOT on WordPress?

Maybe you’re using Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, or even a basic HTML website…

Don’t worry – I’ve got you covered.

Here’s the thing about third-party tools:

Most of them are garbage. They’re either ridiculously expensive, look terrible, or stop working randomly.

But there are a few that actually work…

SociableKIT for Beginners (Detailed Guide)

This is probably your best bet if you want something that just works.

Why I like SociableKIT:

  • Free plan that’s actually useful
  • Works on ANY website platform
  • Looks professional (not like it was designed in 2003)
  • Updates automatically

Here’s exactly how to set it up:

Step 1: Create Your Free Account

  • Go to SociableKIT.com
  • Sign up for free (no credit card required)
  • You get a 7-day premium trial, then it drops to the free plan

Step 2: Find Your Business

  • In the dashboard, select “Google Reviews” from the dropdown
  • Search for your business name and location
  • OR enter your Google Place ID if the search doesn’t work

Step 3: Customize Your Widget

Here’s where you can make it look good…

Layout options:

  • Grid: Perfect for homepages – shows multiple reviews in a clean layout
  • Carousel: Good for sidebars – reviews slide automatically
  • List: Works well on testimonial pages – simple vertical list
  • Badge: Great for headers/footers – compact and professional

Step 4: Style It to Match Your Brand

  • Choose colors that match your website
  • Pick fonts that don’t clash
  • Set the right size for where you’re placing it

Step 5: Copy the Google Reviews Embed Code

  • Click “Embed on website”
  • Copy the JavaScript code they give you
  • Paste it wherever you want the reviews to appear

Shapo.io Widget Setup

Another solid option, especially if you want more control…

The Shapo approach:

  • Go to Shapo.io and create a free account
  • Import your Google reviews (up to 10 on the free plan)
  • Choose your layout – Grid, Carousel, or “Wall of Love”
  • Customize colors, fonts, and spacing
  • Get your embed code and paste it on your site

Pro tip: Shapo lets you mix reviews from different platforms (Google, Facebook, Trustpilot), which is pretty cool.

Elite.com Free Solution

This one’s interesting because it’s completely free…

How Elite.com works:

  • Go to Elite.com (yes, that’s really the name)
  • Hover over “Widgets” in the top menu
  • Select “Google Reviews”
  • Choose your widget style (carousel, badge, grid, etc.)
  • Search for your business
  • Customize the look
  • Copy the embed code

The catch? It’s a bit more basic than the other options, but hey – it’s free and it works.

How to Embed Reviews on Squarespace Website

Squarespace makes this pretty straightforward…

For any of the tools above:

  1. Copy your embed code
  2. In Squarespace, add a “Code Block” where you want the reviews
  3. Paste your embed code
  4. Save and publish

Squarespace-specific tip: Use the “Embed” block instead of “Code” block – it’s more reliable.

HTML Website Integration

If you’re working with a basic HTML website…

Simple steps:

  1. Get your embed code from whichever tool you chose
  2. Open your HTML file
  3. Paste the code where you want the reviews to appear
  4. Save and upload to your server

Most embed codes look something like this:

<script src="https://widgets.sociablekit.com/google-reviews/widget.js"></script>
<div class="sk-google-reviews" data-embed-id="your-id-here"></div>

Just paste that into your HTML and you’re golden.

But here’s what most people get wrong…

They pick the first tool they find, slap it anywhere on their site, and wonder why it doesn’t convert.

The tool is only half the battle. WHERE you place your reviews and HOW you present them makes all the difference.

Quick wins for ANY platform:

  • Put reviews above the fold on your homepage
  • Use a grid layout for maximum impact
  • Show at least 6-8 reviews (not just 2-3)
  • Make sure they’re readable on mobile

Now maybe you’re thinking, “But what about Google’s official method?”

Good question. That’s exactly what we’re covering next…

Method 3: Google’s Official Embed Code (When to Use It)

Alright, let’s talk about the method everyone thinks they should use but probably shouldn’t…

Google’s official embed option.

Here’s the thing – it EXISTS, it’s FREE, and it comes straight from Google…

But it’s also pretty limited.

Getting the Official Embed Code

Here’s how Google’s method works:

  1. Go to Google Maps
  2. Search for your business
  3. Click on your business listing
  4. Click the “Reviews” tab
  5. Find a specific review you want to embed
  6. Click the three dots on that review
  7. Select “Share review”
  8. Click the “Embed…” tab
  9. Copy the HTML code

And boom – you’ve got Google’s official embed code.

Limitations You Need to Know

But here’s where it gets tricky…

What Google’s embed gives you:

  • A map showing your business location
  • Your business name and basic info
  • A link to see all your reviews
  • ONE specific review (the one you selected)

What it DOESN’T give you:

  • Multiple reviews displayed at once
  • Customization options
  • Automatic updates with new reviews
  • Professional styling options
  • Mobile-responsive design

So basically, you get a map with your business pin and ONE review. That’s it.

Best for New Reviews Display

When Google’s official method actually makes sense:

  • Scenario 1: You just got an amazing 5-star review and want to highlight it specifically
  • Scenario 2: You’re adding a quick trust signal to a landing page and don’t need anything fancy
  • Scenario 3: You want something that’s 100% guaranteed to never break (since it’s Google’s own code)

But honestly? For most businesses, the limitations outweigh the benefits.

Here’s what I mean…

You spend all this time building up 47 five-star reviews, and Google’s official method only lets you show ONE at a time?

That’s like having a trophy case full of awards but only being allowed to display one trophy.

It makes no sense.

When Google’s Method Actually Works

The ONLY times I recommend Google’s official embed:

1. Quick and dirty landing pages If you need something fast and don’t care about customization, fine. Use Google’s method.

2. You literally only have 1-2 good reviews If you’re just starting out and don’t have many reviews yet, showing ONE good review is better than nothing.

3. You’re embedding in a blog post Sometimes in a blog post, you want to reference a specific review. Google’s method works for this.

But for your main website? For your homepage, service pages, or anywhere you’re trying to convert visitors?

Use one of the other methods I showed you.

Here’s why…

When someone lands on your homepage, you have about 3 seconds to convince them you’re legitimate.

Showing ONE review doesn’t create that “wow, everyone loves this business” feeling.

But showing 6-12 reviews in a clean grid? THAT creates social proof.

The bottom line on Google’s official method:

It’s fine for specific situations, but it’s not going to move the needle for most businesses.

You want something that showcases ALL your reviews, looks professional, and actually helps convert visitors.

Stop Overthinking, Start Converting

That’s it. No 47-step process. No complicated integrations. No developer needed.

Here’s what we just covered:

Method 1: WordPress plugins (easiest for WordPress users)
Method 2: Third-party tools (works on ANY website)
Method 3: Google’s official method (limited but free)

The bottom line?

Most people spend weeks researching the “perfect” solution and never actually embed their reviews.

Meanwhile, their competitors are displaying social proof and converting more visitors.

Don’t be that person.

Here’s my advice:

  • If you’re on WordPress: Use the Google Places Reviews Pro plugin. Takes 10 minutes to set up and just works.
  • If you’re on any other platform: Go with SociableKIT. Free plan, looks professional, works everywhere.
  • If you just want something quick and dirty: Use Google’s official embed for specific reviews.

That’s it.

Pick one method. Set it up today. Don’t overthink it.

Remember: A “good enough” review widget that’s actually live on your website will convert infinitely more visitors than the “perfect” widget that never gets implemented.

Your next action step is simple:

  1. Pick the method that fits your situation
  2. Spend 10-15 minutes setting it up
  3. Put your reviews somewhere visible (homepage, service pages, etc.)
  4. Watch your conversion rate improve

Because here’s what I know for sure…

Every day you delay is another day your competitors are using social proof to steal customers who should be yours.

So stop reading and start implementing.

Your reviews are sitting there doing nothing for your business. Time to put them to work.

Now get out there and embed those reviews.
